Upcoming Educator Evaluation Webinars on Teacher Observation Rubric

You have your choice of three different dates to attend the Educator Evaluation webinar "Online Evaluation Tool: Completing the Teacher Observation Rubric." It will be offered the next three Tuesdays: Sept. 10, 17 and 24, from 1-3 p.m. each day.

This webinar offers a review of the NC State Board of Education policy on the evaluation process, a review of Step 3 in the annual evaluation cycle and demonstrations on accessing, notating, and authenticating the observation rubric in the online evaluation tool in Home Base.

Updated Session Descriptions for Home Base Refreshers at NWRESA on October 15, 2013

Session Title: Home Base Schoolnet (IIS) Refresher

Date: October 15, 2013

Session Description: This exclusive workshop trains educators on the daily functions of the Home Base platform, including such topics as creating the items used to build tests, creating an assessment, administering an assessment, and sharing grades with PowerTeacher Gradebook and parents.

In the afternoon, educators will then explore the teacher tool set available in PowerTeacher, including gradebook setup specific to scoring principles and effective communication, managing assignments and scores that have been uploaded from Schoolnet, and analyzing data points. Beyond the use of the tools, the trainer will guide participants to engage with each other and their peers back at their schools regarding data discussions and instructional impact.

Target Audience: District Schoolnet Trainers

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Districts may send a maximum of 2 people. Charters may send 1 person.

Session Title: Home Base North Carolina Educator Evaluation System Online Tool (True North Logic) Refresher

Session Description: This training will provide NCEES District Administrators with an update on their responsibilities in managing the NC Educator Effectiveness Online Evaluation System tool located within the Home Base system. District Administrators will receive a refresher on establishing Superintendent and Principal rights for observations, correcting and validating information within the system, accessing historical data, and using reporting features of the tool. District administrators will also be exposed to the new user interface scheduled to be released October 1st. A portion of the agenda will be devoted to answering user-specific questions. Due to the high interest in this training, seating capacity is limited to two District Administrators per district.

Target Audience: District NCEES Trainers

Districts may send a maximum of 2 people. Charters may send 1 person.

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This webinar will provide you with an opportunity to review the process of completing the annual evaluation cycle for teachers with a focus on using the online evaluation tools to complete the observation rubric.

The following topics will be addressed during the webinar:

  • Review the North Carolina State Board of Education policy on the Evaluation Process
  • Review Step 3 in the annual evaluation cycle
  • Present strategies for managing observations
  • Demonstrate copying an existing observation to inform the Rubric for Evaluating NC Teachers to complete a new observation

These "cheat sheets" were developed as a collaborative effort from region 4 districts. They walk administrators through assigning rights, assigning evaluators, assigning mentors, assigning peer observers, and PDP plans. The teacher sheets cover self-evaluation, PDP, and peer observers.

NC WISE YET Info and Timeline

The YET process is scheduled to start promptly at 5:00 PM on June 28, 2013. All NC WISE applications will be brought down at this time. The applications include eSIS, Webapps, UERS, Reporting Hub, Electronic Transcript, Parent Assistant, Web Report Studio and Information Delivery Portal.

If you have applications that pull data from any of the NC WISE applications, please have your data extractions complete by 3:00 PM in order to have a smooth shut down at 5:00 PM on June 28, 2013. Because of the impact a delay could have on other projects and LEAs’ school business, no exceptions or extensions can be granted to defer the start time of YET.

Facilitated Team Time Twitter Training for SI 2013 Participants

During the last 30 minutes of Facilitated Team Time at Summer Institutes 2013, each LEA/Charter team will be asked to participate in a collaborative “Tweetup.” This Tweetup event is an opportunity to share PD plans, resources and next steps via Twitter.

Each Summer Institutes Team will have a North Carolina Department of Public Instruction facilitator available to assist with the Tweetup. Since teams will be expected to tweet their responses, some participants may find it helpful to attend one of the two Twitter training webinars provided.

Topics covered during the training will include:
· Access to a self-guided Twitter training website
· Deciphering tweets
· Understanding hashtags
· Participating in a Twitter chat
· Chat etiquette
· Setting up a chat platform
· Closing questions that will be asked during Facilitated Team Time

Spring Ready Meetings in April:

There will be three different times offered for participation in each of the following topics: “Accountability/Assessments – Setting New Expectations” (April 8, 23 or May 6) and Home Base/PowerSchool (April 18, 22 or 29). Due to limited log-in allowance for these virtual meetings, we will ask schools and central offices to have one log-in and gather their teams to participate as a group. This will facilitate meaningful discussion afterward. Registration information has been sent to principals and superintendents.

Another feature in the Home Base suite of technology tools for teachers and administrators will be quick, easy access tools for implementing educator evaluation. NCDPI will host a webinar Friday, April 12 from 1-3 p.m. to discuss the 2013-2014 NC Educator Evaluation Process and implications related to transitioning to the Educator Evaluation component of Home Base.
